AMD together we advance_
THE ROLE:
Join a dynamic global team dedicated to advancing reliability testing for component, board, and system levels of AMD's cutting-edge processor and accelerator products. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across AMD Global Operations & Quality, business units, and worldwide supplier network. This leadership role focuses on pioneering power component reliability in package, module and system level; driving board and system-level reliability initiatives; and delivering impactful programs that ensure exceptional product quality and reliability for AMD.
THE PERSON:
- Ability to develop innovative and effective solutions for complex technical challenges by identifying critical gaps, formulating actionable strategies, and making sound, simplifying assumptions. Adept at delivering results under significant time constraints, balancing analytical rigor with practical decision-making to drive timely and impactful outcomes.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of power components (e.g., voltage regulators, capacitors, inductors, PMICs, and LDOs) and their reliability and failure mechanisms. Knowledgeable in power topography, power electronics packaging technologies, assemblies and thermal management solution.
- Ability to identify potential risk and failure modes in power components and systems. Approaches challenges with a data-driven mindset, using reliability testing and analysis to make informed decisions.
- Detail-oriented and quality-focused with organized and methodical approach to testing, analysis, documentation, and reporting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate and ensure the reliability of power components such as Voltage Regulators (VRs), capacitors, inductors, PMICs, LDOs, and other related components.
- Work closely with vendors to review and interpret component specifications, reliability data, and qualification reports. Evaluate vendor-provided reliability assessments, including Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), failure-rate predictions, derating analysis, and stress test results. Collaborate with vendors to address gaps in reliability data and ensure components meet AMD product requirements.
- Work with advanced packaging and platform power teams to select and optimize power components. Provide technical expertise on power component selection, considering reliability, performance, cost, and vendor capabilities.
- Develop and implement reliability test plans for power components. Analyze component performance under various operating conditions, including thermal, electrical, and mechanical stresses. Perform reliability risk assessments and identify potential failure modes and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Cross-functional collaboration to conduct failure analysis on power components, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. Work with vendors to resolve reliability issues and improve component design or manufacturing processes.
- Conduct and support mechanical tests to evaluate the robustness of power components interconnect under reliability stress conditions.
- Perform board-level temperature cycling tests to assess power component solder joint thermal fatigue resistance and overall design structure reliability.
- Support SQE on supplier site audits to ensure adherence to AMD manufacturing quality standards and to validate incoming component quality.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of experience in power electronics reliability, power component evaluation, or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of power components such as VRs, capacitors, inductors, PMICs, LDOs, and their failure mechanisms.
- Experience with power topography, power packaging technologies, and thermal management.
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for power component reliability.
- Proficient in reliability testing, risk assessment, and failure analysis methodologies.
- Proficient in FMEA, 8D and DMAIC.
- Skilled in applying statistical methodologies to analyze reliability data, model failure rates, and predict product lifespans. Proficient in leveraging these metrics to identify trends, ensure compliance with industry standards, and drive improvements in product quality and reliability.
- Knowledgeable in advanced diagnostic and failure analysis tools, and analytical techniques to identify failure modes and mechanisms.
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and pronounced attention to details with statistical knowledge.
- Must be a self-starter, and able to independently drive tasks to completion.
- Ability to structure and execute complex analysis, draw insights, and communicate summary conclusions/recommendations to senior management and AMD customers / partners
- Ability to network, build relationships, and collaborate to drive effective decision-making across multiple functions and levels within AMD.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to establish leadership within areas of expertise. Effectively mentor engineers, providing guidance in both technical domains and professional skill development to foster growth and team success.
- Experience with Linux Systems, and programming/scripting skills (e.g. C/C++, Python) is a plus.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor or master degree (BS/MS) in Electrical engineering, power electronics, or a related field.
