THE ROLE:
We are looking for a passionate, dedicated, and creative power and performance attainment engineer, who will be responsible for AMD APU power and performance measurement, analysis and optimization for the final product definition attainment to our industrial customer at post-silicon.
THE PERSON:
We are looking for a dynamic, upbeat silicon power and performance attainment engineer to join our growing team passionate about delivering best in class APU to the industry. It requires an unusual mix of technical breadth in the area of power and performance optimzation, problem solving, and soft skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own power and performance attainment and advisory data to customers for mobile and desktop APU products supporting with continuous test, debug, analysis, & defect resolution throughout the course of a program.
- Work closely with the Architect teams to set power and performance attainment objectives.
- Develop methodologies to optimize HW, FW and SW power management to maximize performance, better battery life and other user-experience.
- Lead the creation of test plans for product-specific performance/watt, features, and target market spaces as appropriate; identify risks & build mitigation plans.
- Lead execution teams hardware & resource planning for the pertinent product space addressing product needs.
- Lead cross-functional technical teams in the triage, debug and resolution of PnP issues.
- Engage with customer engineering and the customers on power and performance optimization problems, promptly resolve issues.
- Feedback improvement areas to the various teams, including the power management architecture, IP, SoC, O/S, FW, and silicon enablement team
- Collaborate with other engineering teams on common program test & debug activities and process improvements.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Brings depth and expertise in silicon and system power and performance measurement, analysis, optimization for the product definition attainment.
- Understands APU system-level thermal, power, frequency, and/or voltage limited workload behavior, and the impact of hardware design trade-offs on the limiters.
- Understands GPU power/performance, SW power management, and system-level trade-offs.
- Understands multimedia and peripheral IP SW/HW power management and optimal perf/watt attainment methodologies.
- Knowlege and experience on ACPI CPPC or PPKG is a great plus.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Product development with hardware platforms and their software & firmware ecosystems.
- Experience in the PC architecture space and familiarity with hands-on system setup & testing and the care abouts for power and performance data collection hygiene.
- Direct technical experience on APU/CPU system performance analysis and micro-architectural power management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Experience working in a fast-paced matrixed technical organization and multi-site environment.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or relevant discipline plus a minimum of 8 years of industry experience including at least 3-5 years focused on power/performance. Domain relevant Master’s Degree (MS) helpful.
